It’s been two years Saori@destiny

So I just looked down at my calendar and I just noticed…

It’s been two years since Saori@destiny’s disappearance from the Japanese music market.

Two years and month to be exact.

Time is flying by… wow! It’s still really sad.

I mean, I don’t think I’ll honestly ever be completely over her just leaving. Not because she’s the most talented musician, no. There are a lot of musicians out there that are better than Saori@destiny.

Just her music always seems to give me a really great feeling… a feeling of happiness that I can’t explain…

(the same with Aira Mitsuki)

When I found Saori@destiny the musician,  it was around 6 years ago, a time of my life that I consider very depressing.

When I first listened to Saori@destiny, I thought “uh… what the hell is this shit” “lol this dumb”

But I continue to listen to her more and just like that it became addicting.

Her music just uplifts me a lot, and gives me happy thoughts.

(lol because majority of the lyrics are not for happy people)

But really that’s what music is all about. I’m really glad to have been a fan of you, Saori@destiny♥

The Best of Saori@destiny online interviews~

I’ve gathered up all of the very best  interviews done by Saori@destiny over the internet and translated it to English. What I’ve taken away from doing this compilation of Q&A’s is some things I’ve already known, some I really didn’t know that kind of surprised me about her, and well some of her answers were just plan humorous. I’ve tried to put this all in this short 18-20 questionnaire. Hope you enjoy the answers of Saori@destiny. A couple of the questions here are from the last of her interviews with Aira Mitsuki.

Saori@background~

First, please talk about your first interaction with music.

Saori@destiny: I guess when I started to learn how to play the piano as a kid. I later went to a music program to continue my studies.

Does your name have a  special meaning?

Saori@destiny: The name ” Saori@destiny” was founded by my producer (Terukado) with the help of my longtime fans.

What artist did you like growing up?

Saori@destiny: I really liked Namie Amuro-san! I listened to “SWEET19 BLUES” and “Don’t Wanna Cry” a lot. I also bought her first CD  “Your My Sunshine”.

Your background seems to be somewhat of a mystery. Can you tell us something about your hometown, and what it was like growing up there?

Saori@destiny: My hometown is the countryside of Japan, which I have strong feelings for. Also, I used to swim a lot when I was a kid. I spent more time in the water than the ground growing up.

Saori@live thoughts~

Do you like live performances Saori-san?

Saori@destiny: It is one of my favorite things to do as an artist!

Do you look at the audience faces in live performances?

Saori@destiny: I so look! (laughs)… I look into the eyes of the people that look bored those are the people that stand out to me (laughs)

If you had to describe your style of music how would you?

Saori@destiny: I think my style of music changes all of the time. I experiment with different genres while working on new music.

Saori@lyrics~

Saori, what inspired you to write the lyrics of “Ethnic Planet Survivor”?

Saori@destiny: My producer  said he wanted the lyrics of this song to be realistic of a young teen. So I formed together stories of friends and fictional characters I’ve read about in mangas and novels.

The lyrics are very dark. ( Talking about Ethnic Planet Survivor lyrics)

Saori@destiny: I was and am very aware of the lyrics and it’s impact.

Saori@Christmas

What Christmas song would you recommend when you’re spending Christmas alone?

Saori@destiny: Happy X-mas – John Lennon & Yoko Ono. I love John Lennon and his music!

What Christmas song would you recommend when you’re celebrating Christmas with everyone?

Saori@destiny: All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey. I get excited  by the bright melody in the song. It sinks in that it’s Christmas every time I hear it.

What song off of your “WORLD WILD 2010” project would you recommend for Christmas?

Saori@destiny: Um, maybe “Lonely Lonely Lonely” (laughs) especially if you are alone (laughs) This song was also recorded on Christmas Eve.

Domestic Domain Project

How did you work on your latest album “Domestic Domain” and feel a musical evolution from your previous projects?

Saori@destiny: I had a hard time with creating the right tones in my voice, and I spent a lot of time working on it for this project. This time I experimented with Hip-hop and Rap for the first time. I think there are a lot more different sounds in this album than my previous projects.

Last of her interviews

Saori@destiny, what do you like the most about the music and personality of Aira Mitsuki?

Saori@destiny: Aira-chan is a person I can count on even if she is younger than me. Aira is very charming. She is able to sing in both cute and cool voices.

If you were to choose a song from “Park of the Safari” what would it be?

Saori@destiny: I also choose “WOWTOWN”. (Aira also picked the same song!) I love the song and I love to perform it live.

Saori@ending Thing we wish could actually happen

We’d love to see you perform in the U.S sometime. Any plans for the future?

Saori@destiny: Unfortunately, I have no plans at this time. But I will try my best to have live performances in the U.S sometime in the future.

Do you have a final message to all of your fans?

Saori@destiny: Yes. I am very happy that people who live overseas take interest in my music. Even though I’m working in Japan only, I hope to meet all of my fans overseas sometime in the future.

It’s official Saori@destiny’s retires.. Well not official exactly?

It’s just so fresh and surreal, feels like an April fools joke since her last live performance was on the 1st of April… I ‘ll miss her.

Saori@destiny has not all out said that she is graduating from the music industry. However, her subliminal messages from different things that she has wrote, or said has proven at least that she is moving on.

  • First the LAST SONG lyrics
  • What she reportedly said in the Japanese newspaper about the song and what it meant
  • The tweets that she post on twitter on April 1st

涙が止まらないよ。”I can’t stop the tears”

最後にいただいたアルバム!!やばい!!みんなのメッセージ読みながら涙が止まらないよ。写真付き嬉しい!!なんかこれ読んでたら寂しさがこみあげてきた。ありがとう

Saori is very flattered and overwhelmed with the messages and pictures that fans sent her.

  • On her personal blog, she writes about her live performance like it’s her last one. Then tells her fans that to help her feel better because she’s very, very sad.

Of course in the comments her Japanese fans tell her how thankful they are of her music over the years or how she change their life with her lyrics.

I’m not sure it’s starting to look more and more like D-topia and her were butting heads at the end of her contract because of no official announcement coming from Saori or D-topia.

Some people think it’s because of her age (mid-20’s speculated) and the growing popularity of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

Whatever the reason may be, it seems she has taken the high road in the situation

Read more on a Japanese fan’s reaction  here

I think its a pretty good article of her situation and why she left

If this is an April Fools joke, its a really really bad one…..

WE LOVE SAORI@DESTINY

Rumor Saori@Destiny retiring this year?

Aira Mitsuki and Saori@destiny were recently interviewed in the free paper UNGA to promote their collaborative mini-album release ×~PARK OF THE SAFARI. When asked about her solo track “LAST SONG,” Saori@destiny made a shocking remark about the future of her career:

“Um, well… I wonder if I’m allowed to say this here? To tell you the truth, I think this album will be my last release as Saori@destiny. So I wanted to emphasize that ‘last’ in my solo song. But I thought if I wrote it in a straightforward sense, it’d confuse the listener, so I decided to express it as the end of a romance.”

Saori@destiny and her label D-topia Entertainment have yet to give an official statement on this surprise announcement, so as of now, it’s unknown what direction she’ll be taking at the end of this promotion cycle.

x~Park Of The Safari – Aira Mitsuki x Saori@Destiny Review w/ lyrics

LABEL: D-topia Universe/Universal Music Japan

PRODUCED by Terukado Onishi

So you guys know I’m in love with new mini album by Aira and Saori. They’re my two favorite people. The new album is amazing, hip, electro, its a mix very experimental. All in one.

So lets get to the review! Now that I’ve listen to every track at least 903709320 times. Not Kidding.

PONPONPON is still the most played song though, ha.

Yes.

Oh and credit to roomgirl for the lyrics.

Track 1 GATE or Exit 2:35

Review: Like I’ve said before it sounds like something that Nicki Minaj, would rap on top of.  It starts off really strong and gets really heavy about 20 seconds in. I really couldn’t tell you if its Saori@Destiny or Aira that is singing the lead. But my very best guess is the its Saori@Destiny and Aira is backing her up with her vocals. I love the beat completely thorough the ending of the song.  I think it’s pretty much a good intro track.

Note: It may sound weird in English but their words have a lot more different meaning to it then in English.

Lyrics:

Japanese:

“Welcome to Paradise, Let me be with you!” kikoeru yo Voice Hello! Can you hear me? tachiagare Safari bouken da No Return Happy na Space wo Enterprise shite “Welcome to Jungle, Let me be with you!” saikou no Choice Hello! Can you feel me? tegakari wa Safari shuppatsu da No Escape Nutty na Place wo Entertain shite

English:

“Welcome to paradise; let me be with you!” I can hear it, your voice — hello! Can you hear me? Stand up, safari, this is an adventure with no return Enterprise a happy space “Welcome to the jungle; let me be with you!” An excellent choice — hello! Can you feel me? The clue is safari, this is a departure with no escape Entertain this nutty place

Track 2 Discovery 5:54

Review: Love this one. Has an absolute hip feel to it. So it starts off with upbeat, electronica feel to it. Then I’m sure its Saori comes w/ Aira Mitsuki vocals. When you hear the beginning it has Saori imprinted all over it. One of her original dance songs. It goes back to how it started off similar to the beginning. As soon Disco-VERY, you should be jumping up and dancing. Both Aira and Saori comes on the track hitting the Discovery, ha. Anyway, Roxanne is sampled on the track. Some people don’t really like the sample but, I’m feeling the sample from Roxanne. It gives the track it’s unique sound, separates it from the regular 8-bit club dancing feel that most of these electronica songs usually have. And marks Saori all over it, that’s just my opinion.

Lyrics:

Japanese:

shiritai I don’t know furetai wanna be bujouri na KIMI no eyes yametai I can’t stop nakitai demo believe ikitai stay with you tometai change the way sudoori na BOKU no heart kietai come with me sutetai demo please ima Discovery mada Discobaby ima Discovery kono Discomusic tobenai canaria nukedasenai barrier

English:

I want to know, I don’t know I want to touch, wanna be The irrationality in your eyes I want to stop, I can’t stop I want to cry, but I believe I want to go, stay with you I want to stop, change the way My passing-by heart I want to disappear, come with me I want to throw this away, but please Now is discovery Still a disco baby Now is discovery This disco music A canary that can’t fly The barrier I can’t break out of

Track 3 WOWTOWN 3:37

Review: This song has a dancing funky tune. As soon as you turn it on reminds you of of the great Michael Jackson. Which in fact I’m pretty sure that is what it was influenced by his 1979 album. But we’ll just name it OFF THE WALL pt. 2,(Saori’s single from Domestic Domain) because it has the same vibe. At first I wasn’t really feeling this song, but I got over it and grown to appreciate it for what it is. The song that gets stuck in your head. Really like this song.

Humming “Why You Wanna Trip On Me” to myself
Even if I try to make a wish, it’s “My Girl”

I’ve never told you, “If You Wanna to Me to Me to Stay” [1]
As it is, it’s history

Call on me, the letters in the mail I wrote you
Became my September regret as soon as I sent them

Oh! Wow, what is this? Back up the train already
I want to go back to being just good friends

Someone cried out once that “love is the place”
But the world is black or white

But if things stay like this
I won’t be able to say anything but “I want you”
Never say you can’t survive

I love you, feel the fire (I will survive)
Last through this dangerous fire (through the night)
I want you to notice, crying (heartbreaker)

This time around don’t walk away
“Billie Jean” is playing

I love you, bounce the body (I will survive)
Last the fire springing up again (through the night)
I really want to tell you the truth (will you be there?)

Sing “You Are Not Alone”
It’s too sad, “Billie Jean”

Humming “Why You Wanna Trip On Me” to myself
Even if I try to make a wish, it’s “My Girl”

I’ve never told you, “If You Wanna to Me to Me to Stay”
As it is, it’s history

MJ number, wow, wow, wow war dancefloor

Will become a memory tonight
Want to take you higher
The human nature that never disappears
Take it to the top
This fantasy will never fade

I love you, feel the fire (I will survive)
Last through this dangerous fire (through the night)
I want you to notice, crying (heartbreaker)

This time around don’t walk away
“Billie Jean” is playing

I love you, bounce the body (I will survive)
Last the fire springing up again (through the night)
I really want to tell you the truth (will you be there?)

Sing “You Are Not Alone”
It’s too sad, “Billie Jean”

Call on me, the letters in the mail I wrote you
Became my September regret as soon as I sent them

Oh! Wow, what is this? Back up the train already
Just good friends, oh, my sweet wow “wowtown”

Track 4 PANAMA 3:35

Review: Now I’m going to be honest with this one. I thought it was ridiculous honestly. And I still don’t agree with it being after WOWTOWN . I think it should be after GATE or EXIT. But it’s the type of song you listen to it once, and think “What were they thinking?” and it turns out to be one of your favorite songs. It has a lot of guitar and single guitar in it. Feel good song. Probably the most unique songs on the album. Aira with her perfect vocals in the chorus. Saori throughout the song. The second verse of the song, has a reggae feel to it. Love that. This song is so flawless.

Track 5 DAMAGE 4:27

Review:  Yeah, this is the song that I’m not a fan of. It ruins the upbeat feeling the whole album had from the beginning to start off with in the first place. Like what the hell? It ruins everything. The lyrics are depressing and makes me wanna cry. Are they talking about cutting themselves over a boy? Nah, boo I’m not down with that. The song doesn’t fit the album or the theme of the album. it’s the song that you’re like wondering “What were they thinking?” and you’re right. ha. Just my opinion of course.

English:

No matter how many centimeters I cut, I know it’s still awful
Even though I messaged you, you didn’t come to see me, did you… ah, crying

Whether you’re laughing or whatever, I can hear everything you say perfectly, after all

Is it bad to keep asking for more?
You can do whatever you want
Destroy me to my core, damage
It still doesn’t hurt
Should I not want you forever and ever?
It doesn’t matter if you hit me all the more
Because I can’t feel anything, damage

Nothing will change whether I live or die
I’m choosing to be loved in this moment, ah, smiling

I want to open my eyes, so don’t look at me like “You’re so annoying”

Is it bad to keep asking for more?
I’m just a replacement, so it’s fine
Setting into motion like I imagined, damage
It’s still not enough
Should I not want you forever and ever?
It’s a mistake, but it doesn’t matter
Because I don’t believe in anything, damage

Is it bad to keep asking for more?
You can do whatever you want
Destroy me to my core, damage
It still doesn’t hurt
Should I not want you forever and ever?
It doesn’t matter if you hit me all the more
Because I can’t feel anything, damage
I want to be loved

Track 6 Umbrella Aira Mitsuki’s solo song 2:59

Review: I really don’t understand how you go from that depressing song to this. The totally opposite, its like Yin and Yang. Umbrella is the such a cutesy and cheerful song. It’s one of those cute songs that Aira is the master of. The piano and everything blends in perfectly. Sounds like something straight from a Kyary cover. The lyrics are adorable, like you feel like licking a lollipop or swinging on a swing when you here this. Plus this gets stuck in your head, a lot.

[2] Run-run in Japanese is a kind of phrase that refers to cheerfulness or being in high spirits.
[3] This appears to be a children’s song…
[4] A pun on hummingbird.

Track 7 Theme of Safari Interlude 1:39

No lyrics

Review: A regular up-beat classic D-topia beat. It starts of with the animal, jungle like sounds.  Covered with Aira and Saori’s vocals. Turns kind of tropical or tribal like you’re dancing around a fire, gets me pumped. It doesn’t need any further reviewing. Yes, it’s that amazing for an interlude. This 1 min and 30 secs fits perfect with the theme of the album of course. “Theme of Safari”.

Track 8 LAST SONG Saori@Destiny’s solo song 4:04

Review: I really like the beat on this song. But I don’t like the vocals on this one. I’m a little disappointed by Saori@Destiny’s solo, I expected something like part 2 of Discovery. Even though I was a little disappointed, the expectations I set for this song was pretty high. It’s still an amazing track. But for some reason it doesn’t sit well with me because it’s not different and starts sounding similar to other songs. Not Saori’s type of song. It fits more with a group like Perfume. Maybe, Aira would have probably pulled if off a little better? Not sure. I must say, one of the better lyrics of the album. But not one of the top songs on the album, no.

English:

My indecisiveness will never change
But I have confidence that I’ve made the right choice
Why is it that I always lose what’s important to me?

I don’t hate it, I love the present, too
Can I cry for a little while longer?
I won’t forget the song we sang together, our last song

I listened to “Yesterday” at volume
So that tomorrow could come again
Repeating “I believe” in my mind, I closed my eyes

That you waited for someone like me
Is already more than enough in itself
I was able to become strong because you held me

Even now, I want to stay tied to you
Just let me stay like this for a little while longer
I have to tell you goodbye; I’ll offer it to you, be my last song

My pride was all I thought about, “Help!”
Nothing can come of this without getting hurt again
“Love me do” are the words I’ll have no choice but to use again

If I could do it over again and voice my selfishness
It wasn’t my intention to trouble you
Even if I pretend to grow up, it only makes me sad

I’ll regret it from here on, I know
I wonder how much I’ll be punished
In place of a requiem, I’ll sing our last song

This is goodbye, so take my hand
Show me your smiling face this last time
I want to carve it into the depths of my heart

Bye-bye, I’ll always be thinking of you
So I don’t want you to hang your head
We’ll walk different paths; when I set off, be my last song

Track 9 Animal Daydream 3:50

Review: Another very slow beat song, with animal sound background. Of course, it is. I’m sorry I wasn’t impressed with the vocals on this song. Totally off beat and really awkward. Doesn’t really fit Aira or Saori@Destiny’s usual vocals. This would have to be my least favorite song,  and the only song I actually dislike on this album. Not really into the lyrics. The track is a good length though. But yeah, I don’t really see what they were trying to do with this one.

English:

Singing, singing, we are the world
A lion swaying in the mirage
Singing, singing, we are the world
A tiger swimming in the Nile river

Floating along hazily
A daydream seen in slow motion
A merry-go-round stopped in mid-turn
We haven’t played enough, la la la

Shining, shining, save to the world
A cheetah drawing close to a zebra
Shining, shining, save to the world
A panther crossing the Ganges river

Let’s go swimming in the ocean
If we’re in the savanna, let’s dance
I don’t want to do anything but have fun
We’re slowing down

Singing, singing, we are the world
A lion swaying in the mirage
Singing, singing, we are the world
A tiger swimming in the Nile river

The sea as it glitters and shines
A daydream full of nothing but sweetness
The theme park we escaped
We haven’t swam enough, la la la

Shining, shining, save to the world
A cheetah drawing close to a zebra
Shining, shining, save to the world
A panther crossing the Ganges river

Let’s go swimming in the ocean
If we’re in the savanna, let’s dance
I don’t want to do anything but have fun
We’re slowing down

Singing, singing, we are the world
A lion swaying in the mirage
Singing, singing, we are the world

Shining, shining, save to the world
A panther crossing the Ganges river

Singing, singing, we are the world
A lion swaying in the mirage
Singing, singing, we are the world
A tiger swimming in the Nile river

Track 10 SPECIAL Link 4:25

Review: I would gladly announce that this is my personal favorite track on the album. Very much what I was expecting and I have no problem with that. Of course its a upbeat dance, up-tempo, sparkly type of song. It reminds me an artic. Don’t ask why, ha. Covered mostly by Aira’s vocals and it fits her vocals perfectly in my opinion.  Saori@Destiny has a good ear of whats mainstream. So last track of the album ironically is the first song announced through one of Aira’s live performance w/ Saori. Beware if you listen to this song of the catchy bug!! Very catchy song!

English:

Storytelling like a fairytale
I don’t want to know the ending

If there was a fight in the finale, there was laughter, too
Turning the first page of that next stage in this phase

Ready go! Into this new world, adding color to the white sky
Let’s go full throttle ’til we reach the time limit, yeah, yeah, yeah

Baby, let’s decide the password in our own style, too
Not like magic — I want to make something fantastical happen
Take flight, rise up, shout out!

We’re different even in our similarities, walk this way
But our stubbornness is mutual

We live piling up goodbyes
But we’re all best friends, sharing in our pain, breaking the chains

Ready go! Into this one and only universe, on the edge of the borderline
Let’s lose ourselves in avoiding the traps, yeah, yeah, yeah

Baby, the password is our secret “Mr.”…
Nothing official — I want to have a special dream
Take flight, rise up, shout out!

Ready go! Into this new world, adding color to the white sky
Let’s go full throttle ’til we reach the time limit, yeah, yeah, yeah

Baby, let’s decide the password in our own style, too
Not like magic — I want to make something fantastical happen
Take flight, rise up, shout out!

Overall, I love this album. Some songs were a disappointment, or wasn’t great. But hey, every album has those.

I’m okay with the amount of tracks on the album. It’s not a big deal, because I’m sure it took a lot of commitment to share tracks and do vocals. And I would like to see how another colab album goes. Because their voices bend great. Love Aira and Saori.
